Green Tribunal Gives Go Ahead for AIIMS Construction at Assam, Till Final Hearing

Webdesk, TNI Guwahati, 19th April, 2017: Today National Green Tribunal, Kolkata amended its earlier order of holding the construction works of Guwahati AIIMS at Changsari. Now the Government of Assam can carry out the construction works in the same spot till the final outcome of the case. Last year a petition was filed by a local outfit from Nagaon i.e. AIIMS Demand Committee against the construction. In that time NGT had ordered to stop construction till the final outcome. According to the sources, the final hearing of the case is scheduled on May 24th this year. Earlier around June last year Nagaon, Raha, Phulaguri experienced huge protest including bandhs, clashes in protest of AIIMS construction at Changsari. New Delhi sources said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may lay the foundation stone sometimes in May.
